Alcazaba and Roman Theatre Tour: The Living History of Málaga

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Accompanied by an official local guide, you’ll explore the remains of the Roman past and the walls of the Andalusian splendor in a unique cultural experience, full of anecdotes, curiosities, and breathtaking views.

With this tour, you’ll skip the lines, enjoy priority entrance, and receive an engaging and detailed explanation that will help you understand why the Alcazaba is Málaga’s most iconic monument.

Why take a guided tour of the Alcazaba of Málaga?

The Alcazaba of Málaga is not just a fortress—it is the symbol of Muslim power in Al-Andalus and one of the best-preserved Moorish citadels in Spain.
Built in the 11th century on the remains of a former Phoenician stronghold, the Alcazaba served as both the residence of Muslim governors and the defensive bastion of the city.

Its privileged location on the slopes of Mount Gibralfaro offers spectacular views over the port and the historic centre, blending nature, art, and history in one remarkable setting.

During the visit, you’ll discover the secrets hidden behind its walls, towers, courtyards, gardens, and monumental gates, as well as learn about the history of the Gibralfaro Castle that overlooks the Alcazaba.

With our tour, you don’t just visit the Alcazaba — you understand it, live it, and remember it.

The Roman Theatre of Málaga: The origin of Malaca

Before entering the fortress, the tour begins at the Roman Theatre, located right at the foot of the Alcazaba.
Dating back to the 1st century BC, it is the oldest monument in Málaga and a true testimony to the city’s Roman heritage, rediscovered by chance in 1951.

Your guide will show you how daily life was in ancient Malaca, how public performances were organized, and how this space, forgotten for centuries, was finally restored and brought back to life as one of the city’s most emblematic sites.

This guided tour perfectly combines Roman and Moorish Málaga, offering a complete vision of how the city evolved through the centuries.

As a general rule, when there are less than 4 people in the group, the tour may be cancelled. But no worries, this rarely happens!

We ask you to always book the Alcazaba tour beforehand for 2 reasons:

The first one is that the Alcazaba tour is not like the free tour, if there are no bookings that day, the guide won’t go to the meeting point.

The second reason is that if you are late or don’t find the meeting point, you can always contact the guide!

You will find a guide with a red t-shirt and umbrella of Málaga Adventures at the Glass Pyramid in front of the Roman Theatre. We recommend you to arrive at the meeting point 10 minutes before the tour starts!

The visit ends at the viewpoint of the Alcazaba. You can ask your guide all the questions you want to be able to enjoy your vacation.

Don’t worry, everyone has been late at least once!

If it is possible, try to send us a message on WhatsApp to let the guide know that you are late.

If that is not possible, the guide will be buying tickets at the entrance of the Alcazaba. You will find them close to the entrance where they will be explaining the first point of the tour.

The Alcazaba has many narrow stairs, and the ground is very uneven. For this reason we do not recommend of coming with a stroller.

This tour is not suitable for weelchairs.

Dog are not permitted during the tour.

Even if you don’t require a good fitness level, we do not recommend this tour to people with serious mobility impairments.

Rain in Málaga comes in 2 intensity levels:

The first one is a little rain, during which our visits can continue without any inconvenience. The other one is the Great Flood during which it seems the sky is falling down.

If we expect the latter, we will contact you and postpone the visit to another time when the weather is better.

Of course you can! We understand that your schedule might be packed very full in order to enjoy this city in the best way possible! Just let the tour guide know you will leave before the end so they don’t think you are lost! The important thing for us is that you enjoy yourself and discover Málaga!
